Chris is a Colorado native, the mother of two grown children, a teacher, a writer, a storyteller, and a service-dog raiser. She loves to travel, which is evidenced by the different cities used as settings for the various adventures in her children’s books. Two of her favorite things are middle-schoolers and Guide Dog puppies. As a children’s author, what could be more enjoyable than pitting them against the world as detective partners in Tooten and Ter: A Nose for Crime and Tooten and Ter: A Nose for Trouble.

The Tooten and Ter Adventures are e-books, published by OnStage publishingA Nose for Crime followed by A Nose for Trouble chronicle the detective adventures of thirteen-year-old Terrance O’Connell and his partner, service-dog-in-training, Tooten. Ter is a street-wise kid, and Tooten is simply wise. They share the characteristics of curiosity, fearlessness, and loyalty as they snoop their way into the scams of a silver thief, an environmental activist, a Vishnu avatar thief, and a murder plot, among others.

Available for: public speaking, group events (with guide dog!), and freelance editing.

Thirteen-year-old Terrance O’Connell thought his life was over when he met his foster father, Captain Leroy Gonzalez. Although growing up in a family of small-time criminals had its drawbacks, this placement with an old, retired police captain seemed like an unendurable situation. Then Ter met Tooten, Cap’s service-dog-in-training. They formed a partnership, sharing the qualities of curiosity, trust, and fool hardiness. Both at home and on their travels with Cap, Tooten and Ter find adventure around every corner.

Terrance O’Connell is still teaching Tooten, a small service dog, new tricks. When fate closed the door on Tooten getting into Service Dog Academy, it opened another door to Tooten becoming a Canine Ambassador in the Helping Paws Progam. It also allowed Tooten and Ter to continue helping people find missing items.

Captain Leroy Gonzalez, Ter’s foster dad, warns Ter about his occasional stunning lapses of judgment, but Ter still manages to get involved in more mysteries and Tooten is a willing accomplice. Together they solve mysteries in Boulder, New York, Seattle and Chicago.
